The Liberatory Playground

For BIPOC

What we practice, grows.

October 12-26, 2023

registration is now Closed

What world do you dream future generations will inhabit?

The Liberatory Playground provides BIPOC a community space for processing their experiences of being steeped in a culture that has been shaped by whiteness, capitalism, and coloniality. And, it is a space where we unpack, repattern, and dream (remember) alternative futures through ways of being/doing/living/feeling.

Working with the body and mind, we’ll help you examine and redefine your relationship to dominant cultural norms and cultivate a deeper connection to self, others and the land.

FAQ’s

How much time should I dedicate to this course?

About 3 hours a week. You’ll want to plan for 1.5 hours/week of independent, reflective and embodied practice, in addition to the weekly sessions.

How do you practice harm reduction?

You’ll be expected to engage with others in a respectful manner. This includes respecting pronouns, correctly pronouncing names (or asking if you are unsure), speaking from your own lived experience (using “I” statements), and not making discriminatory comments. If harm is caused and there is an opportunity to practice repair in the moment, this will be the preferred method; however, in the interest of the collective experience and our limited time together, we will not be centering those who have caused harm, and they may be asked to leave the space. Course recordings will be available until the end of November 2023.

Roots

Here’s what past attendees said...

"There was enough time in between information release and cohort conversation to read, reflect and allow embodiment. Everything I read made me have multiple feelings - discomfort, fear, excitement, joy, grief and more. I feel equipped to speak about this with other folks, without being scared of being shunned. I don't know. This was awesome. And totally aligned with my motivations."

"There is definitely something about taking a social approach [to learning] and I like how this content does not feel like an online university class, or an employer-sponsored course encouraging "tick the lesson" boxes in your spare time at work"

"I'm going to remember to be slow and soft. This is a lifelong journey and there is no rush / urgency to make it to the "top of the mountain." I also will be soft in how I treat myself. I am enough, I don't need to align with every person I encounter and I can make mistakes."

"Everything is clearly so intentionally and thoughtfully put together. The reflective prompts for each norm were helpful and the group convo was supportive as well"

“"I'm taking away that there's definitely more room for noticing how I have internalized these norms and how it is showing up in my behaviour. I appreciated the opportunity to go deeper into reflection with the group during the cohort gathering - it made me feel supported to explore."
